Gimmick RallyThursday, July 12thThe Gimmick Rally, to be held on Thursday, July 12th, is designed to provide a scenic, fun and relaxing outing for everyone (children included). The route will include mountain passes and switchback roads, along with scenic highways, towns and byways. The route will be simple and clearly described with an actual driving time of about 2.5 hours (100 miles), and there will be no tricks or traps. You should not get lost!
Optional stops will include two unique venues: the Utah Olympic Park training facility, site of the 2002 Winter Olympics, and the mountain resort town of Park City. At the Utah Olympic Park complex, you will find easy, free parking, a free self-guided museum about winter sports and the Olympics, clean restrooms and an eatery with a deck overlooking the ski jump training pool. You can just watch the athletes, or for a fee, you can actually participate; take a guided tour, ride in a training bobsled, do the zipline or slide down an alpine slide. Next you can explore the mountain resort town of Park City with its “Old West” Main Street of unique shops and restaurants. The route will lead you up the historic Main Street, and guide you past the free parking garages, where you can stop if you’d like. This is a great place to enjoy the western ambiance, window shop, eat lunch, visit the Park City museum, and buy something special to take home. During Parade check-in, you will be asked to choose your competition class, either Two-Person or Two Plus Passengers, depending on the number of people in your vehicle. You may participate as a family, or join in with friends, and you may drive a Porsche, rental car, tow vehicle or what have you. You will also be able to choose your window of departure, in half hour increments, starting at 8:00 am. The rally will begin from the Little America (LA) parking lot, and you may take as little or as much time as you like to complete the drive. If you wish to be scored, you must turn in your answer sheet at LA before 5:00 pm. You should bring pens or pencils, and although not necessary, you may wish to bring a camera, clipboard and a calculator (your cell phone might suffice). You will receive a packet with all instructions and brochures at the rally start.
